Explore the timeless beauty of Alberobello, Puglia, through a lens that unveils its legendary past. Founded by farmers summoned by Acquaviva feudal lords to cultivate "La Selva," Alberobello’s story took shape in the 16th century. To evade royal taxes, lords mandated homes built without mortar creating the distinctive trulli houses from stacked chiancole stones. These dwellings could be swiftly dismantled before inspections, birthing the ingenious tax loophole that defined the village. Renamed "Sylva Alborelli" (later Alberobello), it broke free from feudal rule in 1797.
In 1996, UNESCO honored Alberobello’s trulli architecture as a World Heritage site, preserving this unique hamlet frozen in time. Through our lens, we spent four immersive days capturing Alberobello’s soul from fiery sunrise reds over ancient rooftops to the vivid hues of its moonlit lanes. This series is a visual journey through history, celebrating the living heartbeat of Italy’s most enchanting village.
